Importance of Appreciation.

All of us, being humans, crave attention and appreciation.

If someone does a good deed, showing a little appreciation goes a long way.

Some people work day and night, with little or no appreciation shown to them. This makes them depressed and they slowly lose interest in the work they do.

Showing a little appreciation did not hurt anyone. However, this can exist only in no jealousy zones.

Have you ever observed that those who’s work is truly appreciated, end up working more productively and it helps maintain a healthy work-life balance.

It is much wiser to say a few kinds words of appreciation to someone when they are living, rather than writing an essay for them when they’re no more.

Sometimes people do not show appreciation towards other’s due to the following traits :

1) Jealousy

2) Ignorance

3) Callousness

Ways we can appreciate others around us :

1) Make something for them.

2) Write a thank you note.

3) Compliment / Praise them

4) Show signs of affection

5) Do something thoughtful

6) Get a small gift

Whether you are having a great day or a horrible one, an attitude of gratitude can lift your spirits and change your mood, and sometimes the mood of those around you too.

Alan Cohen said, “Appreciation is the highest form of prayer, for it acknowledges the presence of good wherever you shine the light of your thankful thoughts”.

So, starting today, let’s make a conscious effort to appreciate those around us and also appreciate all the things we have in our lives.

Let us be more grateful in order to be more happy.

How important remembering a name is.

Part 2 : Chapter 3 of the book “How to win friends and influence people”

Have you ever had situations when you just can’t remember a person’s name? Well, you need to remember names, because it is really vital in your quest of loyal companions.

In this chapter, the author Dale Carnegie says that the average person is more interested in his/her own name than in all the other names on the earth put together.

He advises us to remember a person’s name, call it easily and this would be a subtle and effective compliment to them.

With regards to businesses and corporations, the bigger they get, the colder they become. One way to warm it up is to remember people’s names.

The author tells us that people are so proud of their name that there have been some who pay others to carry on their name.

Most people don’t take the time and energy to remember a person’s name. They give excuses, like saying they are busy. But that won’t help.

Franklin D. Roosevelt always said that one of the most obvious and most important ways of gaining good will is by remembering names and making people feel important.

His technique was simple. If he didn’t hear the name distinctly, he would tell the person to repeat their name, or ask them the spelling of their name. He would then repeat that person’s name several times during the conversation and tried to associate it with that person’s features, expressions and general appearance.

The author emphasises that there is magic contained in a person’s name, because it is something which is wholly and completely owned by the person.

So to sum it up, remember a person’s name and they’ll always have pleasure dealing with you.

Be at peace, be grateful, be happy.

• When you are at peace, you learn to be grateful, and when you are grateful, you end up being happy. So, meditation and happiness are connected.

• Meditation is something which can be practiced by anyone. It is not connected with any religious beliefs or dogma of any kind.

• When you start meditating it’s not going to be easy. Trust me. Unless you’re a really calm person.

• Today I meditated after a long time. I had to calm my raging mind. And it wasn’t easy.

• But then again, meditation does not work overnight. Like exercise, it has to be practiced overtime in order to reap it’s benefits.

• I felt so much calmer after the 10 mins of meditation. My head stopped aching and I stopped over thinking.

• In this fast-moving world, with all the digital distractions coupled with our ability to over think, we end up being depressed and unhappy.

• We tend to lose interest in our health because we have so many things to distract us from our well-being.

• My advice would be to start meditating for atleast 10 mins a day. It will really change your life and your health will improve manifold.

• Meditation is really simple.


• All you have to do is :

> Download the ‘Headspace App’ or ‘Calm App’. (You can also meditate without the apps, but the guided meditation provided in these apps make meditation really simple.)

> Sit in a quiet place.

> Close your eyes.

> Concentrate on your breathing.

> Observe the sounds around you.

> When your mind wanders off, focus your attention back to your breath.

> Do this for 10 mins a day and you will see how wonderful you feel.

What is mindfulness?

• Mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing one’s attention to experiences occurring in the present moment.

• In other words, it is living in the present. Not worrying about the past or future.

• Mindfulness can be developed through meditation and other practices.


Some tips on how you can become more mindful :

1) Live in the present, do not dwell in the past or think about the future.

2) Learn to accept the fact that some things cannot be controlled by us and that there is only so much that we can do.

3) Stop analysing situations, that way you do not think of an imaginary outcome.

4) Be more grateful. That will make you more happy.


What are the benefits of being mindful?

1) Boosts energy levels.

2) Reduces stress and anxiety.

3) Better sleep.

4) Improves mood and happiness.

5) Improves concentration.

6) Improves digestion.

7) Helps with digestive problems.

8) Improves heart function.

9) Improves self-esteem.


Tips on how to start mindfulness meditation :

> Sit in a quiet place.

> Close your eyes.

> Concentrate on your breathing.

> Count from 1 on inhale, 2 on exhale, and so on till 10.

> Continue this practice for 5-10mins per day.

> Concentrating on your breath will make you stop thinking about other things.

> Meditating is something which can be improved with practice.

> Mindfulness Meditation helps you concentrate more on the present. It does not force you to stop thinking, but it eases the mind to naturally stop thinking and enjoy the present.


My personal experience :

When I was young I had gone for a meditation class where I was told “stop thinking”. But that is not very simple, because it is at that moment itself that all thoughts come flooding in our minds. That’s when I realized that meditation is not my cup of tea.

Recently I downloaded the ‘Headspace’ and ‘Calm’ apps. I never knew meditation could be so interesting. It took only 10 mins per day to change my mood completely. I definitely recommend everyone to try mindfulness meditation. It will change your life.

• Some ways to help improve your self-esteem are as below :

1) Meditate.

2) Stop comparing yourself to others.

3) Realize how wonderful you are and that you are amazing just the way you are.

4) Keep a compliment jar.

5) Start living in the present.

6) Realize that if someone else was in your place, you wouldn’t treat them the way you are treating yourself.

7) Surround yourself with positive, encouraging people.

8) Keep away from negative people and negative situations.

9) Get to know the real you.

10) Do things that make you happy, but make sure you don’t hurt anyone by doing so.

11) Share your problems with your close ones.

12) Go to a therapist who will give you medication to ease your depression and anxiety.



• You are a wonderful person.

I may not know you, but I know that you are unique and special just the way you are.

• Have faith in yourself.

• If you believe in God, then pray that you get the confidence to hold your head high and to show the world how wonderful you are.

How to make a good first impression.

Part 2 : Chapter 2 of the book “How to win friends and influence people”

They say that the expression one wears on one’s face is far more important than the clothes one wears on one’s back.

The author speaks about the importance of a smile.

As actions speak louder than words, a smile says that you are glad to meet a person. That is why dogs make such a hit. So do babies. They get so glad to see us, that we get glad to see them too.

However, the author says that your smile should be genuine. An insincere smile or grin won’t fool anybody. Everyone knows that it is mechanical and they resent it.

Professor James V. McConnell says,

‘People who smile tend to manage, teach and sell more effectively, and to raise happier children. There’s far more information in a smile than in a frown. That’s why encouragement is a much more effective teaching advice than punishment’

The effect of a smile is powerful, even when it is unseen. If a person smiles while talking on the telephone, his/her smile comes through in their voice.

If you want people to have a good time meeting you, you have to make sure that you have a good time meeting people.

If you don’t feel like smiling what do you do? The author suggests that you should force yourself to smile. Act as if you were already happy, and that will tend to make you happy.

William James says,

‘Action seems to follow feeling, but really action and feelings go together; by regulating the action we can indirectly regulate the feeling.’

Everyone in this world wants to be happy – and one sure way to be happy is to control your thoughts.

The author emphasises that happiness does not depend on outward conditions. It depends on inner conditions.

There is an ancient Chinese proverb that goes like this :

‘A man without a smiling face must not open a shop.’

Your smile is a messenger of your good will. Your smile brightens the lives of all who see it.

As the famous essayist and publisher Elbert Hubbard says,

‘Greet your friends with a smile, and put soul into every handshake. Do not fear being misunderstood and do not waste a minute thinking about your enemies’

We bother so much about what other’s think about us, that we rarely feel happy with ourselves.

Let us strive to understand our worth, and be happier people, who genuinely smile at the world.

Suicide? Why?!?!

This is a line from the song “Time of my life – NeYo ft. Pitbull”

Today the “Blue Whale suicide game” was on the news. Innocent children are playing such games and killing themselves.

We need to stop children from accessing such games.

We need to be there for people who are depressed and suicidal. Please seek help!

Ending your life is not an option.

You are special and no matter how insignificant you feel you are, speak to your parents, family and friends and you will realize how important you are to them.

Depression is very common nowadays and it is not something to be ashamed of.

I was depressed and I was suicidal once because of what I was going through, and God saved me. I then went to a neuropsychiatrist, who gave me medication and therapy to get out of that state.

There is no harm in seeking help. It makes you stronger, not weaker.

Please don’t fall prey to suicide games, cutting or anything of the sort.

Be brave, the bad days don’t last forever.

There is always someone who can help you, you just need to ask them.

Stop suicide. Save your precious life.

How to develop genuine friendships.

Part 2 : Chapter 1 of the book “How to win friends and influence people”

The author stresses upon the fact that we should show interest in others in order to make friends.

He says that you can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.

He further adds that people are not interested in us. They are interested in themselves-morning,  noon and after dinner.

You have to be concerned about everyone, no matter how unimportant they seem. That is the key to success.

To be genuinely interested in people is the main quality everyone should possess.

Dale Carnegie explains how we can win the attention and time of even the most sought-after people by becoming genuinely interested in them.

If we want to make friends, we should put ourselves out to do things for other people – things that require time and energy.

Another important point put across by the author is that we should greet people with animation and enthusiasm. That way we show that we are interested in talking to them.

As Alfred Adler said,

‘It is the individual who is not interested in his fellow men who has the greatest difficulties in life and provides the greatest injury to others. It is from among such individuals that all human failures spring.’

How I got over depression.

I’m writing this post as part of my mission to create awareness amongst people regarding depression.

(I am not a doctor or a therapist. I’m just someone who has been through depression and wants to save others from it’s clutches.)

God and my doctor saved me.

It’s been more than a year since I’ve been going for therapy.

I have changed completely. I have become a happier person.

 I went to a neuropsychiatrist who gave me medication to lessen my anxiety and depression.

People all around the world have this strange misconception that the medicines given for depression have an affect on your health in the long-run.

That is completely wrong. The medicines which I took were mild and were effective in calming me down and I was on a prescription for a short period of time (a little over a year) and I will soon get off medicines.

It is of utmost importance to seek medical help incase you or your loved ones are depressed.

Ignoring the issue or even saying that you can cope with it, will make things even tougher to handle.

Stop looking at depression and mental health issues as a deterrent to your success. 

You should realize that adequate help is available for the same, and seeking help with change your life and make you so much calmer.

Seeking help does not make you weak. It makes you stronger.

Just like we go to doctors for our physical illnesses, we should seek medical help for our mental illnesses.

Make sure you go to a good doctor, who is genuinely good and helpful.

Look at the change in me. From being someone who didn’t want to live, I’ve become someone who is motivating others and lending a helping hand to others with depression.

I’m a live example to show that therapy and medication for depression truly works.

Hustle. But, rest as well.

All I’ve heard from big entrepreneurs is “Hustle, Hustle, Hustle”.

I tried sleeping for 3 hours last night instead of my usual 8 hours, and I was completely drained at work, I was restless, I was irritated the whole day and overall it wasn’t a really pleasant experience.

So, my advice to all the hustlers out there is – Hustle, but do rest as well.

The human body needs rest to function properly.

Scientists and doctors are not fools to say that humans require a minimum of 6 to 8 hours sleep.

If you can work well on less sleep, then hat’s off to you. But to the other normal people (like me) all I have to say is, don’t push yourself too much.

Don’t get burnt out when you’re still so young. You have your entire life ahead of you.

Be passionate about your work, but learn to take care of your health as well.
